maximum prices

« Back to Glossary Index

Maximum prices, also known as price ceilings, refer to government-imposed legal limits on the highest price that can be charged for a specific good or service in a market.

  • They are effective only when set below the market equilibrium price.
  • This leads to a shortage, where quantity demanded exceeds quantity supplied at the controlled price.
